Extraordinary Safety

Lithium ion batteries can undergo thermal events.  Some may be minor, like an outgas of a battery that will just need to be replaced. these can result in expensive recalls, data loss, or lost revenues. 

Dreamweaver separators were designed with this in mind.  Our versatile technology platform allows materials to be chosen based on performance, not process limitations.  To enhance safety, all materials in Dreamweaver separators are chemically stable over 300 C.  This results in outstanding safety performance.  See the video to the right for one example, and scroll down to learn more.

Cells That Can Take the Heat

What happens when these separators are used to build cells?  Extraordinary performance.  In one test, production 26650 cells made with lithium iron phosphate cathodes and graphite anodes were made with three different separators.  These cells were then placed in an oven at 180 C, and the voltage measured for 20 minutes.  The results are dramatically different for the three separators:
  • Conventional: The cell immediately started to lose voltage, and underwent thermal runaway and a vent at around 18 minutes.
  • Dreamweaver Silver: A slight increase in voltage as the electrolyte heated, with a slow decay of about 2% over 20 minutes.
  • Dreamweaver Gold: No change at all for 20 minutes!
